Memorial Day Weekend

Everyone was excited to see Grandma Cathy and Don roll into town Friday afternoon! On Saturday morning we made our way to Bismarck to celebrate our nephew Tyler's high school graduation.

When we got home Sunday afternoon, our plan was to head to the lake. However, Eli wasn't feeling well, so he and Joel stayed home. Obviously, he was just exhausted because he was fine after a 2 hour nap! Noah and I had our first campfire and s'mores of the year, and Grandpa Steve took him fishing.

Yesterday

was our 9th wedding anniversary. How did we celebrate? At 9:00pm, we sat at our kitchen counter and ate take-out Mexican food before we each settled in to our couches for the evening. I watched the American Idol finale; he fell asleep watching the Twins. I should have told him this, but instead, I'm writing it because that's what I do.

9 reasons why I love my husband

1. He is the most generous person I know...well, maybe besides his mom.

2. He likes to help people. Seriously, I think he drives around looking for people to help. He even helps people who don't really need help.

3. He always leaves me his last bite of food. I think he's always left his last bite, I just eat it.

4.He knows practically everything about everything, and what he doesn't know, he can figure out.

5. He passed his smart genes onto our children.

6. He works his buns off to provide for our family.

7. He encourages me to shop.

8.He doesn't let my bad moods affect his good moods.

9. He might even believe that what's mine is mine, and what's his is ours.

You know the person who returns carts to the cart corral after lazy people leave them in the middle of the parking lot? That would be my husband.

Our week...so far

It started with a fun weekend at Krista's. Eli ran a mile for school.
Eli started t-ball.
Tonight, Eli and I ran a half mile with Jack, Ella, and Erin.
Then, we went to Noah's Bible School program. Wow! The Peterson's have never been so busy!!

Joel even ran 4.5 miles this week.

Yet to come for me.... a 5k with some great friends tomorrow night.

a Saturday morning 10k with those same great friends plus my dad and sister minus Erin who will be running the half marathon.

My husband

This is just one of the many different clothing ensembles he put together over Easter weekend. Currently, he is flying to Arizona to accept an award for being one of Wells Fargo's TOG (Technology and Operations Group) 2010 top performers. He probably won't be thrilled that I mentioned this, but we are VERY proud of him.

Saturday

In the morning, my dad, Erin and I ran a 10k for a good cause. My mom and Noah came to cheer us on. Luckily, the race took place before this happened. Joel took Eli to the bank to start a savings account. He was all about bringing his birthday checks, but he wasn't so sure about taking any of the cash he had at home. I think he might have changed his mind after he received a few treasures from the bank. This is his favorite. It's a whistle with a compass, magnifying glass, and thermometer; definitely worth the $250!

Thanks to my parents, Joel and I had a night out in honor of my birthday(only a month later). We had a great dinner, a couple of martinis, and were sleeping by 10:30. We must be getting old!

Joel vs. The Glacier

Every person reading this has probably heard of the movie Joe vs. the Volcano; I present you with an equally riveting tale. You will now hear an aptly titled North Dakota tale of a stubborn and determined Norwegian transplant who finally reached the edge of his remaining bit of sanity and sternly averred to outlast the inane, unrelenting winter which had befallen the Fargo/Moorhead greater metro area. The first picture is of our tale's nemesis..."The Glacier" as the local elders respectfully refer to it. When the first day of spring officially arrived, we were still left with this solemn yet impressive scene...a four-foot, self-sustaining wintry monster which came about in November, grew and evolved throughout the winter season, and defiantly refused to leave our front yard whence the seasons changed. It was on that fateful vernal equinox that our hero took a solemn vow of silent protest to not shave until that behemoth had completely dissipated and finally left this world; at that time, and only then, would Fargo Ole (as Joel is affectionately known in the Norse community) be allowed to ever-so-momentarily reclaim an iota of lost sanity. Fast forward approximately three weeks to the present day. The last two pictures, taken today, paint the picture for you, dear reader, of who ultimately won the bitter struggle...Joel outlasted the Glacier. Mark this day in history, April 18th, 2011, that Fargo Ole bested mother nature. Most locals say it couldn't be done; I implore you to draw your own conclusion. However, it was a victory which came with a very somber price. But what a beautiful disaster and thrilling battle of wills it was by all accounts. Although snow and wintry weather will continue to plague this barren land for a fortnight or two, Joel has managed to claim a small victory of the Norwegian human spirit. For now...

Spring preschool program

Well... luckily Noah recovered from his latest battle with the flu in time for his preschool program (he missed the Christmas one due to the flu). He did all of the actions, some singing, and managed to not get snot on everyone, so it was a success. It was fun to have Grandma Connie and Grandpa Steve in the audience!

Thanks for lunch Grandpa!

Happy Birthday To Me

Noah got a new book at kindergarten open house last night, and before bed, he read the whole thing to me. He only needed help with two words!

Katelynn, Zach and Eli playing chess I didn't bring my camera into the water park, but these seven little people had a blast!! Thanks Mom and Dad!

It's the little things

I absolutely love when kids are first learning to read/write, and they start sounding out words, putting sentences together, and writing familiar words. Today, Noah handed me a piece of paper that said, "MOM IS MUD", and it made me smile.
